Entrepreneurs and Passion

Passion is one of those words that, in my opinion, is overused. Whether you hear the word from business coaches, mentors or other entrepreneur, passion appears to be the word of the day. But have you really thought about what it means?

The dictionary states passion is a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything.

Everyone, hopefully, is passionate about something in their life. One thing I know is that if you’re considering becoming an entrepreneur and do not have passion please stop and reconsider your choice of profession. Being an entrepreneur is rewarding and challenging. If you lack passion you may be able to overcome a few challenges, but without passion it will take a toll on you. Why is passion necessary? Although the rewards of entrepreneurship are many so are the challenges. It is easy to be passionate about something easy and fun, but more challenging when something is difficult and full of drudgery.

What is passion?

Certainly enthusiasm comes to mind. You must have enthusiasm for your product or service. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Your colleagues, competitors and customers call tell if you are enthusiastic about your product or service. Combined with enthusiasm you need be goal driven. Have goals and focus daily on ways to take steps toward your goal.

What action steps can you take today to reach your goals of tomorrow?

I have never seen an inanimate object be passionate. Passion is something people can obtain, possess and share with others. Hire and work when you can with only passionate people. However, don’t expect your people to be passionate if you are not. Lead with passion.

I read somewhere that to live with passion is to live loud. An entrepreneur who is living loud is not marking time but taking advantage of every moment to tell his or her story.

As an entrepreneur you will face many distractions. Learn how to put on blinders to block out all the “noise” that will surround you. Blinders will help you keep moving forward toward your goal.

Finding Your Passion

Have you noticed that if you are not good at something you are not very passionate about it? How do we ever become good at anything? You become good by practicing and hard work. Very few people I know are passionate about something of which they are not very good.

Entrepreneurship is hard work and takes the willingness to work at it 24/7. By combining hard work, perseverance, and continuous learning you will become proficient and passionate at what you do.

Passion is not easy. Difficult situations will arise and it is in the quest of becoming good at your business that you can find passion.

Do you ever wonder why so many people wish to help entrepreneurs? The reason is that entrepreneurship is passion. Once you find your passion you can’t help but want to share it with others.

Find your passion and share it with others…who knows, you just ay help them find their passion.

With passion, when faced with challenges, it is not always winning, but in always finding a way to get up and move forward. Passion provides the energy and stamina to keep going. To recap:

  • Find your passion
  • Put blinders on and try to ignore the noise that will surround you.
  • Keep the goal line in front of you.
  • Always move forward.

Here is to Passion! It allows us to face challenges boldly and with enthusiasm.
